1. Explain any two of the following passages with reference to the context and supply brief critical comments wherever necessary :
(a) The phoenix ridle hath more wit
By us, we two being one, are it
So, to one neutral thing both sexes fit,
Wee dye and rise the same, and prove
mysterious by this love.

(b) Born to no pride, inheriting no strife,
Nor marrying discord in a noble wife,
Stranger to civil or religious rage,
The good man walk’d innoxious thro’ his age.

(c) When the stars threw down their spears,
And water’d heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see ?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee ?

(d) O lady ! We receive but what we give,
And in our life alone does Nature live !

3. Comment on the contrast of art and life; and youth and old age in ‘Sailing to Byzantium’

4. Discuss the satirical portraiture of Mac Flecknoe.
